The cycle of poverty continues and worsens with the rampant alcoholism, that killed three of Junior’s relatives in the book, and in school where none of the students are going to college. It’s an ugly circle and there’s nothing you can do about it”(Alexie 11). And because you’re Indian you start believing you’re destined to be poor. And then you start believing that you’re stupid and ugly because you’re Indian. You start believing that you’re poor because you’re stupid and ugly.
